This book travels!

Ιt is amazing, people buy a book, read it, then they place it in a plastic bag for protection and leave it somewhere in the city for anyone to read. This way they share knowledge and show generosity for people who cannot afford to purchase many books. Have you seen a travelling book in your part of the world?

Bookcrossing then!I have heard a lot about it and the truth is that just yesterday I started reading a book that I plan to release after I finish it (Stephen King,Cell the english version).If you are in Thessaloniki,maybe you will read it next!!

Great informative shot Dimitrius - Good thing you told us what it is because I cannot read Greek. I find most people in Europe are a lot more versed in English than English or Canadian people are in European languages. Your friend reads Stephen King - I should send him a few! I have many and if I put them out on the streets I would probably get caught and fined for littering. We have a lot of Thrift stores and other names of second hand non-profit stores who welcome books - they sell them very cheaply to people who can't afford them - maybe 50c or $1.00. A new paperback Stephen King would cost around $11.50 Canadian plus tax. ($7 or $8 in the US). I have been a book hoarder for years and love to keep good ones, but just don't have room for any more.

@Anne: Be brave Anne, just try to release one by leaving it on a bench in a central park, dont forget to put it on a plastic bag for protection. Take care Dimitrios.

Wow Dimitrios, thank you for showing us this. Very cool. We don't do this in the States as far as I know. We have a bookshed at our local rubbish recycling center. People leave books there for the taking but they are not usually current titles.

Thanks for sharing, I have seen not books but newspapers, magazines that people leave behind in the trains, then someone else comes and takes them to read and leave them again... really nice!

I like the idea of travelling books very much. Tehran does that in public transportation like buses. You can read the book but you can't take it out of the vehicle. But people take them away sometimes. :(

I haven't heard of this in the states, but it's a great idea. I usually just give all mine to a local senior citizen home or to a hospital.

I just thought of some more to add to my comments. I just love that I have found photo-blogging. It brings us and our cultures and the neat things that happen in other countries to our attention. The media is so negative this is so positive. Thanks you.
